Many are victims of the break-up of a marriage of relationship where Dad wants contact with the child and mum wants to punish him for the break-up. In these cases a mother (or indeed father, if he has residence of the child) can persuade the child that “something” happened when they were younger – the child believes this and will, at the instigation of the parent who has residence, make such false allegations to the police.

Some are jealous of a stepfather because attention (from the mother) is perceived to have been taken away from the accuser. Often false allegations of sexual abuse are made on the spur of the moment in order to attract attention and then they are instantly regretted – by which time it is too late and the police have been informed and there is no going back.

Many are victims of physical, mental/emotional and verbal abuse and believe they are doing their mum (or whoever) a favour by having them removed from the family home by making a false allegation of sexual abuse. A person who is physically/mentally/emotionally and/or verbally abusive is not necessarily a paedophile and really does not deserve to be so labelled for the rest of their lives. By punishing such a person by falsely accusing them of sexual abuse you do not only punish the person who hurt you (by that I mean hurt you in ways other than by way of sexual abuse) but you punish a whole range of other people who do not deserve this.

There may be a wide range of reasons why an ADULT should make a false allegation of child sex abuse. It is possible that they are really short of money and they wish to hurt their victim because of some other kind of hurt/resentment stemming back several years.

The ordeal of the falsely accused does not just stop at the prison gates and it affects many, many other people who may never forgive the person who made the false allegations. Bridges will have been burnt forever and it seems that there will be no going back.
